An inverter is the system needed to convert DC current created by the PV solar panels into AC current to make it usable and safe for the home or office. The size of the inverter is calculated using the energy audit done, to ensure the correct amount of current is handled safely.
Off-grid systems are completely disconnected from the utility grid. These systems typically include a solar array, DC charge controller, batteries, bidirectional inverter and controls (with the possible addition of wind and other fuel generator alternatives for high load applications). In this configuration, energy is collected and stored to meet all local power requirements.
Grid-tie is a common photovoltaic (PV) or solar system installation configuration in which electricity is generated by the PV system and routed to customer loads, offsetting the utility electrical demand of a business.
A solar micro-inverter, or simply microinverter, is a plug-and-play device used in photovoltaics, that converts direct current (DC) generated by a single solar module to alternating current (AC). The output from several microinverters can be combined and often fed to the electrical grid.
