The energy department from Jasco Group approached us to assist them in finding and providing a solution to become energy independent at their headquarters in Midrand. Their main concern was the
rising cost of electricity and unreliable supply which disturb the day-to-day operation of the company and the resulting negative impact on the operation and performance of the company.
We completed the feasibility study for the cost of implementing a PV Solar solution based on the information provided by Jasco Group. We took into account their power consumption need for their operation as well as their desire to become energy independent and a more green company. This process of understanding the client needs and priorities led us to the point of finalising the size and type of PV Solar system which needed to be implemented in order to meet the desired criteria.
During the site analysis process, close work with our client and understanding of their needs made it clear that the best place for installation of the PV Solar plant is not on the roof of the building, despite this being the traditional approach.
Considering all aspects of the potential applications and site specifics and further analysis of the various approaches available, we concluded that the most valuable and effective solution for Jasco was to use their parking area. The fact that the parking space is an important part of daily operation of Jasco, as well as the additional advantages that Solar Carports provide made it clear that this is the ultimate solution for our client.
The client had already allocated budget for the procurement of shade solutions for their car park. This budget was allocated to the PV Solar Carport solution, making the overall project more cost effective.
After appointment by the client we started the execution of the project and actual implementation of PV Solar Carport solution, with a total of 40kW/peak installed DC capacity.
The duration of the project was 8 weeks from start date to completion. The team that completed the installation consisted of 1 Project Manager, 1 Site Manager, 5 Skilled Solar Installers and 5 Semi-Skilled Installer/General Labourers. Valsa managed the entire project throughout all stages until final completion.
A Structural Engineer made all designs and necessary calculations on the structure of the PV Solar Carport application. On final completiona Structural Engineering Certificate was issued to our client as part of SANS regulation. All our designs and structural manufacturing were carefully managed to ensure a superior standard of engineering and quality control, as we continually strive to provide high quality standards on our systems to our clients and channel partners.
The finished PV Solar Carport project povides Jasco with green solar power, substituting the power supply from the power utility and making the client more energy independent. In addition to that the new build PV Solar Carport provides shelter and additional parking space on the premises. The overall cost for the carport structure has been optimised due to the combined benefits of a PV solar plant application and car park shade solution.
The outcome of the PV Solar system is a daily generation of power in the region of 200kW/h depending on the weather conditions. This provides approximately 30% of the power required for the operation of the Jasco Headquarters facility. Phase 2 of the project is provisioned for future expansion of the PV Solar Carport following the success of the first initial phase.
